Around 25 years ago stepper motors were used in distributed control systems for industrial processes. Examples are movement of mirrors in laser processing systems, and variation of mechanical output lines. These have mostly been replaced by digital modules and you may find panels of them in sources that specialize in selling surplus materials. Also, you might try just bidding for them in eBay.
